NRA Basic Pistol Safety Course

Date: Saturday, March 17th, 2012, starts 9 A.M. sharp. Please be a little early. Location: Walden Sportsmen's Club, 1823 Route 52, Walden, NY Directions: The club is roughly midway between Walden and Pine Bush on the South side of Route 52. There is a large sign at the entrance. From Walden, follow Rt. 52 West. You'll go past Albany Post Road (traffic light). Continue on Rt. 52 about 2 miles past Albany Post Road. From Pine Bush, follow Rt. 52 East. The club will be on your right about 2 miles East of Pine Bush. Duration: The class normally takes between 4 and 5 hours including several breaks. The course is normally over by 2 P.M. Cost: $30 cash or check in advance. This includes NRA books and refreshments (light food and drink). Class size is limited to 25. To GUARANTEE a seat, you must send the appropriate fee to John E. Darney, 448 County Route 48, Pine Bush, NY 12566. Please make the check payable to John E. Darney. IMPORTANT!!! If you are mailing the fee, please give your full name, age, county, phone number, AND email address. If you give me an email address, I will confirm that I have received your check. If you want a coventional mail confirmation, enclosed a stamped self-addressed envelope. I normally hold the checks until the class is held in case you must cancel. If you do not cancel and don't show up, you forfeit your fee as I must order materials and cannot give your seat away. The Course: This is the NRA Basic Pistol Course. It is intended for the novice and due to New York state law, students cannot handle or fire handguns unless they already possess a license. Topics include safe handling, carrying and storage, nomenclature, action types, ammunition, demonstration of grip and stance, cleaning. Purpose: To provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use handguns safely. Certification: Upon successful completion of the course, each student will be issued an NRA official certificate which may be used as proof of training in applying for a pistol permit in Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan Counties. If you live in another county, PLEASE CHECK WITH THAT COUNTY'S PISTOL PERMIT OFFICER to see if the course will be accepted or is necessary.
